在我們的社會上若發生重大事件,造成人民的生命財產受到威脅時,人們往往會繫上一條黃色絲帶在胸前,或在樹上，藉以表表達祝禱與饒恕，另外它也代表著 “歡迎久別親人回家”的象徵。這作法源自於十九世紀，而這首輕快的老歌 綁條黃絲帶在老橡樹上 Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree 則將之廣傳，歌詞深植人心，使這項舉動成為美國人真正的傳統，進而影響了世界各地模仿。
此曲是根據1971年10月14日紐約郵報所刊登的一個發生在公車上的真實故事所寫成的，由李文Irwin Levine與布朗Russell Brown填詞譜曲，湯尼奧蘭多 & 黎明合唱團Tony Orlando & Dawn主唱，發行於1973年。

d.作為同位語時例: Please tell me the secret whether you did it.

請告訴我這個秘密---你是否有做這件事。

2. if當做”如果”有下列幾種情況:

a. 表示事實、常理或對事情的推理、預測時，if子句以現在式表示未來

例: If it rains tomorrow, I will not go to Taipei.

如果明天下雨，我就不去台北。

If I don't see a ribbon around the old oak tree，I'll stay on the bus, forget

about us. 如果我沒看見老橡樹上綁著絲帶我會留在巴士上，忘記

我們的過去一切。

b. 與現在事實相反的假設，句子的時態會變成過去式。

d. If only I were a bird！但願我是一隻鳥！(與現在事實相反的假設)

e. I will talk to him only if he apologize to me.

除非他向我道歉，我才會跟他說話。
