這首歌是改編自美國作家Eden Eugene Rexford的名詩，由Hart Pease Danks譜曲，由約翰.W邁爾John W. Myers (1864 – 1919)  演唱，發行於1898年。
此曲以深情悅耳的旋律傳達夫妻白頭偕老的意境，值得細細品味。

在結婚誓詞中，我們常聽到新人給予彼此這樣的承諾:"不論生病或健康、富有或貧窮、成功或失敗、美麗或失色，愛你、忠誠於你，直至死亡。”
是的，婚姻是一種不離不棄、至死不渝的盟約，有了這種深深地認定，才能心甘情願地共渡榮枯白頭偕老，白髮吟silver Threads among the Gold 就是描述這樣的情懷，在歲月老去之際，丈夫仍能對髮妻唱出 ”my darling, you will be, Always young and fair to me. 我親愛的，對我而言你永遠都是年輕又美麗。” & “You have never older grown. 你從來不會老去。” 。歌詞中”always總是” 和 “never從不” 是英文頻率副詞的用法，用來表達事件發生的頻率，以下是其簡介:
一、頻率副詞有兩種
1.明確表示次數( Definite frequency)的頻率副詞，在句子中置於句尾。
a. hourly 每小時/ daily 每天/ weekly每週/ monthly每個月/ yearly每年
b. every 每個、每隔…的  every day每天/ every few days 每隔幾天/ every other 是”每隔一…”，every other day每隔一天= every two days
c. once +時間  每…時間一次   once a week 一週一次/ once two weeks   
d. twice +時間 每…時間兩次   twice a day 每天兩次
e.數字+ times  幾次     five times a year一年五次
例: a. I study English daily. 我每天研讀英文。
   b. FIFA World Cup takes place every four years.
    世足賽每四年舉辦一次。
2.不表示明確次數(Indefinite frequency)，只表示頻率多寡的副詞，如: always總是 / usually通常 / generally通常/frequently屢次地 / constantly固定地/ often經常 / sometimes有時 / occasionally偶爾 / normally按慣例/regularly定期/routinely例行/  repeatedly一再地 /seldom 很少/ rarely 難得 / infrequently罕見/ scarcely 幾乎不/ hardly ever幾乎沒有/never從不…
此類頻率副詞通常放在句子中位置，其規則大致如下:
a. be動詞之後 例: I am always happy when I listen to music.
聽音樂時我總是是很快樂。
b.一般動詞之前 例: I sometimes go to downtown on Sundays.
我週日有時會到市中心。
c.助動詞之後，一般動詞之前
例: You can occasionally go to Taipei with me.
     你偶爾可以跟我一起去台北。
d.有些頻率複詞可以置於句首、句中、或句尾。
如usually、generally、frequently、constantly、sometimes、occasionally、normally、regularly、routinely、repeatedly、…
  例: I. I sometimes visit my grandparents on Sundays.
       Sometimes I visit my grandparents on Sundays.
       I visit my grandparents on Sundays sometimes.
       我在週日時有時會去看我的祖父母。
e. 含否定意義的頻率副詞如seldom, never, rarely,….等，為了加強
   語氣時，可將頻率副詞置於句首，但句子必須倒裝。
　例: I never went to the USA.我從未去過動物園。
     Never did I go to the USA. 我從未去過動物園。(加強語氣)
f. always(一定要) 和never(一定不要) 在祈使句時一定要置於句首
  例: Always be nice to your friends. 一定要善待你的朋友。
     Never make the same mistake again. 不要再犯相同的錯了。
g. often也可以放句尾，這時會often之前加上程度副詞如very, quite,
…以加強語氣。例: I go mountain climbing very often. 我常常去爬山
h.頻率副詞在簡答句省略中，一律置於助動詞或 be 動詞之前。
  例: Do you usually work in the evening?  Yes, I usually do.
     你通常是在傍晚工作嗎? 是的，我通常是。
i.要問一個動作發生頻率，以How often….? 來發問。
 例: Q: How often did you play basketball last year? 你去年多常打籃球?
   A: I played basketball twice a week last year.我去年每週打兩次籃球。
