此曲是美國民謠作家Stephen
Forster史蒂芬佛斯特 (1826－1864）的成名作，發表於1848年，當時正值美國淘金熱，大批人潮就是唱著這首節奏輕快又富有冒險精神的民歌湧向加州一圓發財夢，使此曲廣為流傳，堪稱美國西部拓荒時期最具代表性的歌曲。

在19世紀和20世紀初期，美國的流行音樂發展出了一種獨特的表演方式，表演者大多為的白種青年，他們刻意將皮膚化粧扮黑，用幽默詼諧的方式模仿黑人的音樂舞蹈﹑服裝及方言，透過對其文化形式的認同，唱出非裔美人的感情，周遊各地娛樂大眾，是第一種道地美國音樂劇場的呈現，稱為 黑臉走唱秀(minstrel
show) 或
吟遊劇。
本單元噢! 蘇珊娜Oh! Susannah是美國民謠大師史蒂芬佛斯特（Stephen Forster）的成名曲，與他的另一作品De Camptown race康城賽馬 （1850）被視為視為黑臉走唱秀 年代的金曲。

天氣也是文人雅士人用來表達心境的修辭，宋代著名女詞人李清照(1084 -約1155)在 “聲聲慢 ” 這闕詞中有句名言 ”乍暖還寒時候，最難將息 ”，意思是指在忽熱忽冷寒的季節很難保養身體，也引申藉由天氣的多變莫測表達情緒的不穩，英文裡也有像這樣的比喻，如諺語 ”under the weather”，字面上的意思是在天氣底下，實質上是指人們身體或心理感到不舒服。
