一首好聽的曲子，光靠著白鍵的全音來詮釋是不夠的，加入黑鍵的半音才可以使樂曲聽起來更豐富，更和諧。
早期一台好的鋼琴，製造黑鍵所使用的材料多半是烏木 (Ebony)，而白鍵面則是使用象牙 (Ivory) 來製成，所以本單元介紹曲 ”Ebony and Ivory烏木與象牙” (1982) ，按照字面上來解釋是指 ”鋼琴琴鍵” 的意思，實際上是對 ”族群和諧” 的隱喻。
這首歌是由Paul McCartney保羅麥卡尼 (1942－）所創作，他邀請黑人盲人歌手Stevie Wonder史提夫汪德 (1950－) 共同來詮釋此樂曲，兩位巨星膚色一白、一黑，正與鋼琴的黑白琴鍵相呼應，表達了人們對族群之間和平共處的渴望。

英國著名的小說家Jane Austen珍·奧斯丁（1775－1817），在她的小說傲慢與偏見(Pride and Prejudice)中說: “傲慢讓別人無法來愛我，偏見讓我無法去愛別人” (Arrogance prevents others from loving me, and prejudice prevents
me from loving others.)，這句話貼切地道出 傲慢與偏見 是人們之間不能和平共處的盲點。
不論來自哪裡，人們都是一樣的，心中都存在著善與惡，學會彼此了解、充分溝通，才能推倒築在人們心中的高牆。
