此曲原本是比利時作曲家賈克斯布瑞爾Jacques Brel於1961年以法文創作的作品--垂死者 Le Moribond /The Dying Man。
歌中描述一位正值盛年因癌症將逝者寫出獻給摯友，父親和妻子的臨別話語。
這首歌後來被改編成英文，由加拿大歌手 泰瑞傑克斯 Terry Jacks 演唱，發行於1973年，成了經典暢銷歌曲。
1999合唱團體西城男孩 Westlife 重新翻唱，使這首經典老歌再度大紅大紫。

關於Sheep羊
綿羊是一種很妙的動物，性情溫順，膽小易受驚嚇，行動緩慢，公羊雖生有大角，卻不能自衛，喜愛群聚，跟從領頭羊，認得主人且會辨識主人的聲音，有利於群組放牧及管理。
不論中外，羊在早期人類畜牧社會裡的吃與穿兩大生活課題中，扮演了重要的角色，因此中英文中都有不少有關”羊”的羊諺語。
中文以”羊”字概之所有品種的羊，羊在敬天的古中國人眼中為溫馴且實用的家畜，也用於祭祀，因此許多正向積極的中文繁體字都與”羊”字組合而成,如: 祥、美、義、鮮、善、羹、群、詳、養…等，成語如: 亡羊補牢、愛禮存羊、牽羊擔酒、問羊知馬…等，都成了生活中的常用語。
在英文語詞中，每種羊都有其對應的英文單字，如:sheep綿羊、lamb羔羊(小綿羊)、goat山羊、ram公羊(被閹割過)、ewe母羊，而羊肉則統稱為lamb或mutton。
由於漢字”羊”並沒有指定特定品種的羊，所以華人十二生肖中的羊年遂有著各種不同的英文翻譯，有人譯成“year of the goat＂，有人用“year of the ram＂或 ”year of the sheep＂。
游畜牧業是聖經時代西亞、北非地區及地中海沿岸諸國的經濟主體，聖經裡有許多關於羊的比喻，例如稱耶穌為神羔羊( The Lamb of God)，表示捨身流血，為世人贖罪的救恩；而祂與信徒的關係則為牧羊人與綿羊 (The shepherd and the sheep)，牧人帶領羊群每日進出羊圈得草吃，其中伴隨著盜賊偷竊、野獸襲擊、及迷羊走失的危機，表示上帝對信徒每日生活的供應與帶領。
陽光季節Seasons in the sun歌詞提到I was the black sheep of the family ，black sheep意思是害群之馬，英語和羊有關的成語除了來自長期以來的生活經驗的累積外，還有許多是來自聖經的比喻，整理如下:

Goodbye
陽光季節Seasons in the sun雖有旋律輕快悅耳的副歌，事實上，它十分的傷感，是作者對摯愛者的訣別曲。
在英文老歌中，發行於1959年的再會吉米Goodbye Jimmy, Goodbye也瀰漫著同樣的告別情懷。
在以色列建國(1948)之後，散居世界各地的猶太青年紛紛回歸祖國，投入以阿戰爭中保家衛國，據說Goodbye Jimmy, Goodbye就是描述旅居美國的猶太人歸國赴戰的情境，戀人們雖互道再會，卻是訣別的畫面。
聆聽這首歌的感覺很像閱讀革命烈士林覺民 (1886-1913) 的 與妻訣別書，令人動容。
